Senior Pictures Don’t Need to Be Complicated

When planning senior pictures, it’s easy to start thinking more is better.

More outfits. More locations. More accessories. More everything.

But a great senior portrait session isn’t about how much you can fit into it. It’s about choosing a few things that photograph beautifully, feel authentic, and give us room to create.

One of my favorite recommendations is simple: bring at least one dress you absolutely love and feel confident wearing.

A beautiful dress can give us far more variety than you might expect. We can create a classic portrait surrounded by flowers, a full-length image that shows the entire look, a closer portrait focused on expression, something backlit and cinematic, or an image with movement that feels completely different…all without changing the outfit.

That’s exactly what happened with this pink dress.

The color worked beautifully with the flowers and greenery, while the simplicity of the dress kept the attention on her. By changing the light, location, composition and direction, we created an entire collection from one outfit that still feels varied.

And that’s the point.

You don’t need a closet full of clothes to have great senior pictures. You need the right clothes.

Choose outfits that fit well, photograph well, and make you feel confident. From there, my job is to create the variety.

Senior pictures can be simple and still significant.
